There are so many things that are advised as essential steps in the process of adulthood. I am a firm believer in that of the malt liquor phase. Whether due to you being a broke-ass, or just too into rap music and bbq's, everyone should at some point have enjoyed a cold 40oz. Obviously at a certain point that shit should be deaded (I'll say its a 20 and under thing), but its always good to reminisce of the time you were counting change or pretending you were diddy in the one more chance video drinking freixenet in the tub. Nonetheless you gotta grow up and put down the malt because that shit is gross.

i never knew

Congratulations to me, I've found yet another place to spend... Traditionally I would discount such a place solely on location and well, ignorance. But that was the old me, I'm on that 2010 shit. Basically my company for the evening had been talking about this place for months, but for some reason it had never come to fruition. I've also caught the various photo galleries of the meat being cured by somebody with access to their kitchen. Thats 2 trusted opinions. O Let's Do it (Wacka Flocka voice). While it can be found beside one of the lamest spots in the city (don't be confused, the only fromage in here is served on plates), this place shuts it down. Horse carpaccio, lamb's brain, prosciutto wrapped sweetbreads, duck ragu tagliatelle... hells yeah, and I think my company liked it even more. Might I also add the room is very fresh. I'm officially on the team.

Crack

I will add one thing however... pay for bread, really? really? You are gonna charge this much and still make me pay for bread? It's not a deal breaker, but it is a little suspect

where I'm at

I can't put my finger on it... As I may have said before, I don't like to f with a good thing. Whenever I do however, I can't help but get the feeling of wanting that old thing back. I mean that I'm supposed to be trying new things, living life, but I guess I'm not that type of dude. So I pretty much live n maintain. I'm doing me. If that means a steady dose of familiarity, then I guess that I'm cool with that. That is exactly the reason why I fucks with the drizzly. Not overwhelmingly spectacular, but solidly consistent. No surprises here, just fulfilled expectations. Like I said, there is no reason to f with a good thing.

There are so many shitty Italian places in the city, although thats likely an accurate statement for almost any city. This place is the least shit of the shit places in yorkville. In fact its pretty good (and reasonable). The BI will also be pleased. You will be content. See, everyone is happy.

Batali's Babbo. Was a Friday night, no reservations. Waited for like an hour (although it wasn't too bad b/c we were able to get our drink on). Saw Kelis in the house (fresh off that settlement). Drank the bubbly, did the 8 course pasta tasting. It was pretty ok (which is essentially awesome in singlish). Ended with some of the most intense itis of my life. Will definitely do it again.

During my time on the fresh coast I was able to witness funcouver's municipal election. Perhaps I'm just ignorant or maybe it's that I completely agree with that south park episode about changing the name of the school mascot (hmm... giant douche, or turd sandwich?), but I struggle to name the premier, let alone the mayor of our fair city. The thing about the left side elections though, was that the party names/ platforms were some of the craziest shit I had ever seen, which in turn kept my attention. One of the aforementioned groups was the dance party party, whose platform was to make everyone a crazy hippy and ensure there is a rave on every 2nd block within the tax base (or something like that). Obviously they didn't win, but they were one of the groups that raised the issue of extending last call. Soooooo for 1 summer we enjoyed a 4am last chance at select locations across the city. While it was an epic failure (which should have been a no brainer because Vancouver is not that type of place), it is a great idea in Toronto. By great idea I mean how it is now, where during certain events, various establishments can get an extended license. It's really doe to go to the bar at 2 30 and see everyone you've ever known in your life jumpin off like its their gf's birthdays (especially because you had no idea they would be there, although they always are on these occasions). Like I said, great idea, but not always because too much of anything can make you an .........

Last summer (or maybe it was the summer before), I remember people getting all grizzly over the Reggie's opening on King st. Too bad Reggie's is lame. What more can I say... The sandwiches are not good. Just when I thought to give up on the concept of a good King st. sandwich, I got put on to the Dawg. Not the best pulled pork I've ever had, but the best option one can find at 1 in the am. And they have beer. The best part is that they don't host an after- club douche convention because not many people know of this place. Southern hospitality indeed...

And this became the awesome idea to go to Hiro sushi. While I had heard a few things, this place has generally remained under the radar. Can't believe it took so long. Now this is not a place for those who think the annex california rolls are the greatest achievement of mankind. In fact, its small, fairly expensive, quiet and not really all that impressive inside (except for the knives). Oh yeah, the servers seem to be replaying avatar in their heads, so they are pretty much a write-off. The food however... almost better than the company (no not better, I said almost, which says plenty about how good the ish was). One day I'd like to have my own master sushi chef. Until then I'mma keep Master Hiro in the rotation.

The knicks were in town friday, so it was Italian night at the ACC. We won (minus Bosh), and definately took Mcgrady out of his game. After, we wanted to get some dinner. The problem lies in the fact that where does one eat at 10? - what is open/ has room, etc. We ended up at the Toronto st. Mercatto. Decent food, no diva shit... a good decision. It's kind of like Terroni without the lectures. And, for those that may be confused and say that the place closes early, its called multiple locations. Hater.

I went to Pastis once. I saw lil' kim. What did I think? Fast food on fancy plates. I guess there is something to be said about location, but I'd rather not eat in the 4:59 sunday lcbo line. It's funny how every city has their own meatgrinder. This place, although formerly burned down, is no exception. The sheep still flock. And good on them for being able to put a 1500% mark- up on kraft dinner. It reminds me of a time when I saw a man harassing a nice young couple. This guy starts going off about how he is so rich and important, and why he is entitled to this chick at the expense of her man. Never one to turn down some good entertainment, I (and a few friends) focus our attention on the situation. So this guy, and his silent friend, are trying to get some cut. Fair enough. He's all like "I can get you into the best places around the world"... "Have you ever heard of Pastis? its the best restaurant in the world and they know my name"... "look around you, they wouldn't even let these people stand outside"... I start laughing (primarily because we are at lobby- yeah best place ever-, and there was no reason to insult us). He takes offense, and begins to further explain why he is more important than all of us. Once again, fair enough. By now however, its getting late and although I would have loved to stay for a little more comedy its clearly time to go. This guy makes one final attempt by saying something along the lines of "you cant have mccdonalds forever". The BF, who had remained silent until this point, drops some wisdom that had me falling over laughing... "You and your friend, nice people... You got me, I can't compete with you... the difference, you came here and are leaving here alone... me, I may be going to mccdonalds, but I'm leaving with her... and her too".
Moral of the story? this is exactly what some lame in the club in basically anywhere outside of Toronto is saying about the aforementioned yorkville location.

this makes me hate you less ottawa

There is not much to like about Ottawa. I really could go on for hours about my disdain, but I'mma lean back on this one and spare my fingers the agony. One good thing I will say however, is that there is a little courtyard behind the roche bobois that is home to one of the dopest coffee shops period. I've been told that its name is akin to that of a shop on a lesbian show, but that is beside the point. Sheila and company cook up all kinds of readyrock in house, and have some of the best sandwiches ever. Seriously, I would eat those mf's 2 or 3 times a day (even the vegetarian ones- and I usually don't see the point of eating unless meat is involved). If I ever HAVE to go to that damned town again, I'm gonna fill a suitcase up with those shits and be happy for hours (because I'd probably eat them one after another, then not feel so good because I ate too much and couldn't move, or maybe I'd fall asleep, but then again, I'd probably still feel ok because the sandwiches are that good, but I'd still not feel good due to my gluttonous ways, but then again, it was worth it).

secret place (sorry I had to do it)

Once upon a time Weston was synonymous with the bicycle. Then came crack and the dollar stores. The Loblaws and movie theaters migrated north. Strange place, as the main street is concrete towers while the side streets are lined with large heritage homes. There's a bit of everything in this area (except starbucks). I really wish they would fix the rims at the lions park court though, as the city had a good thing going when the neighbourhood had runs on a daily basis. I'm talking about the area around lawrence, which really has nothing to do with the point of my rant. Anyway, if you travel a little further up towards eglington, there is this korean spot that is the business. It always has tour buses parked outside which is hilarious when you think of the surrounding area being showcased to visitors.

For years I've kept hearing about this place. Maybe its because I like the sound of the name, or what I've heard about it's location, but it seems I could never avoid hearing how great this place was. I finally got a chance to check it out... all rumors true. Not only was it in a retirement home, but I gotta say that me and my accomplice were the only people in this place that didn't carry a lifeline (which I must say seemed to go over well with the staff, and was reflected in the service). As for our evening, the view of the city was quite nice, but the room really does resemble an airport lounge. The Billecart was good. The food... can't remember what either of us had, not to say that it was bad, it was just ok (which is ok I guess, but sometimes I want things to be more than ok).
The end.

not sure what to say... it's kind of not worth it, but at the same time it's a pretty interesting experience.
